Our ultimate weekend in Austin came at the end of Jonathan’s week at Patriot Academy. We were able to be a part of his last day of Patriot Academy so of course we went to watch. We spent Saturday morning at the capitol watching the kids as they passed and tabled bills, it was really cool. If you are interested in your children learning all about our government I highly suggest Patriot Academy.
National Patriot Academy
Patriot Academy is a summer program where kids ages 16-25 learn all about legislation and government. Through this program they learn how to write, present and defend bills along with how to debate. The kids are also taught to respect each other’s beliefs while standing firm on their own. It’s great for our kids to learn since they will be part of the voting community when they come of age.
Ultimate Weekend in Austin
After Patriot Academy wrapped up we took the kids through a tour of the capital. There is so much to see there including the portraits of my ancestors, Ma and Pa Ferguson. He was governor before she was. She was the first woman governor of Texas and has a portrait plus a bust in the capital rotunda.
The beautiful Texas State Capital
My momma and daddy came with us and I had to get a picture of them with Ma and Pa Ferguson’s portraits. The Texas state capital is stunningly beautiful and full of detail, even in the most unexpected places. When you go look for all the little hidden details, you will not be disappointed.
Austin's a little batty!
You can’t have an ultimate weekend in Austin without seeing the bats! Growing up I had seen bats however I had never seen that many at one time. Watching the bats take off was spectacular and worth the time waiting. I could watch that display every day and be just as amazed. I must say, it was rather hot where we were standing below the bridge. When we go again I will stand on top of the bridge where it’s nice and breezy.
The famous Austin murals
People come from all over to take that perfect Instagram worthy picture with the Austin murals and it’s worth it! What better way to document your ultimate weekend in Austin than in front of these murals. I know that we didn’t get to all of them but the ones we did were awesome.
The perfect ending to an ultimate weekend in Austin
We finished our weekend with a beautiful sunset dinner at The Oasis Lake Travis. The Oasis offers delicious Tex-Mex cuisine with a spectacular view. Dinning here is definitely a must and one you will be glad you did!
