I have been searching for the best reading curriculum because our current reading program isn’t working. How do I know it isn’t working? Caroline isn’t interested at all! When this girl is interested in something nothing can stop her and I mean NOTHING. She is a wiz at math, loves history and science but reading is like a chore to her and that means she isn’t learning. It was time for a change.

I found the best reading curriculum for my family.

All About Reading

I was first introduced to All About Reading when I was a teachers helper at the co-op we attend. The curriculum seemed very in depth and I really liked it but I was intimidated by it! It wasn’t until I started looking for affiliates that remembered about this curriculum. Since Caroline was struggling with our current curriculum I decided to really look into All About Reading. Well my looking turned into buying! I believe this is the best reading curriculum for my family and am so grateful I found it.

What makes this the best reading curriculum?

All About Reading is based on the Orton-Gillingham approach making it perfect for all kids. The Orton–Gillingham  approach is specifically designed to help struggling readers and those with dyslexia by explicitly teaching the connections between letters and sounds. All About Reading uses word cards, letter tiles, activities, and the sound app to help students connect language with letters and words. These multisensory programs teach through a logical sequence that leaves no gaps in the learning process. Best of all, these methods benefit all types of learners—not just those who struggle.

The Power of Orton-Gillingham

The All About Reading homeschool curriculum has a placement “test” and we used it to determine which level she needed. I ordered the level 1 kit along with the deluxe interactive kit. When the curriculum came in Caroline was so very excited and couldn’t wait to open the box!

So what did we get in our box?

We got the teachers manual, student activity book, reading review box, box dividers, viewfinder bookmark, over 38 word card sheets with more than 225 word cards, magnet sheet, 108 letter tiles, plus the tote bag!

Ya’ll, I just have to show you the inside of these readers, the art work is absolutely stunning!

Aren’t they just beautiful! The art work alone will keep kids wanting more.

Prep time!

I started prepping the curriculum by working on the letter tiles. First I broke the magnets off of the sheet and made a pile, then I punched out the letter tiles. After that I attached all the magnets to the letter tiles and put them on the magnet board.

As soon as I finished attaching the magnets on the back of the word tiles I arranged the tiles on the board for you to see. I am so excited to start using this!

AAR Letter Tiles

Once I finished with the word tiles I started taking apart the word cards. Each sheet had 6 word cards which I pulled apart at the perforation then put them in a pile. Since the word cards are printed on card stock I decided to laminate mine.

In addition to all of the curriculum prep I decided to take apart the student workbook. There are some sheets that I want to make look extra nice by gluing them to card stock plus a few I wanted to laminate. I pulled all of the worksheets out of the book along the perforation then hole punched them and put them in a binder. Next I cut the outer cover into 3 pieces, front, spine, and back then slid them into the outer plastic covers on the binder. Viola, the curriculum is ready to go!

Caroline is so excited about starting this new program and I am excited about her excitement! I am looking forward to sharing with all of you what this program has done for us!
