I had the privilege of listening to a talk by a great man who said “be the penny”. He talked about how to double your net worth and the effects of doubling a penny every day for thirty days. I sat quietly and wondered “How many people have actually put pen to paper to calculate that out” and then I wondered why I hadn’t done it myself. I also thought about what it means to double your net worth and how I could do that. This gentleman repeated the words “be the penny” and all I could think was “How can I be a penny?” More importantly, what does it mean to “Be the Penny”?
How much is a penny doubled every day for thirty days?
It doesn’t amount to much in the first few weeks however, over time it really starts to make an impact. By the third week you have over ten thousand dollars! Day 28 brings you to over one million dollars and you are really starting to see the value of your work. By day 30 it’s almost unbelievable that you started this just 30 days ago with only one penny! So, do you know where the man is going who said “be the penny”? Do you get it yet? It took me several months of thinking about this plus reading a few perfectly timed books before I understood it! Money is an absolute necessity of this world
Money is of great value in our world today. It is at the root of every single decision we make, from “what are we going to do today” to “what are we going to eat”. What we don’t realize is just how money motivated we really are. Our income dictates everything we do, we hold it at great value. Some would say we hold it at the greatest value, even putting our family last just to make a buck. In some ways it seems as though spouses and children have been “sold” to the lowest bidder, putting their value below that of the almighty dollar. Please do not misunderstand me, I know that money is a necessity of this world however, are we truly holding our family to the value we give money? Do we yell at our children because they accidently break something that we had to use money to pay for? What is the value of a penny and moreover what is your value or net worth?
Is it all about duplication?
After hearing this man’s talk and understanding the mathematical principles of doubling a penny for thirty days my mind went strait to “how do I duplicate myself”. That was what he was talking about after all, however it wasn’t the only meaning behind the phrase.
Be the Penny
So, what exactly was this man saying? We put great value on our every penny, some of us even know where each one of our pennies are going. Without “pennies” our life drastically changes. Pennies hold great value in our life, what are you compared to a penny? In this talk, by this great man the phrase “Be the Penny” also means “find the value in yourself that you place in the penny”. You are more valuable than each and every one of the pennies that it takes to equal the astonishing million dollars!

You are more valuable than rubies! Remember to find value in yourself because you are worth it! You are the one and only ever you and there will NEVER be another just like you. Remember your value and “Be the Penny”!
